Rel=Author Gets A New Look
By: Navneet Kaushal 2011-10-31 Google has improved the look of authorship in its search results. That is the results that use the rel=author markup have been changed slightly. Post a few weeks of tests, the new markup is being displayed in Googles search results. As Google explains, We introduced a simple way for content creators to set up authorship using just their email address, which displays their name and picture on the Google search results page alongside content they wrote. In addition, weve added a few improvements to the author information you see in the search results, so you can find out more about the authors behind the articles and engage with them directly. With the authorship roll out, writers, bloggers and authors can now link to their content with the authorship markup and have their photos appear next to their content in search results. This lets the readers know more about the author. In the case of celebs it is quite more relevant as, when the users will search for a celeb, they will also find content by the celeb themselves. As Google says, After all, if someone searches for -Britney Spears-, they should be able to quickly and easily find not just information about Britney Spears, but also information by Britney. The picture tells more: You will notice now, that the picture of the author is to the left instead of the far right as before. Then there is a snippet information about the author. Along with this have been several tweaks that promote Google+:
Authorship can be established using email too. This was announced by Google recently that to participate in the authorship program, an author needs to put their name on their content and the e-mail address. The next step is to go to the Google+ profile and verify the address. The idea behind these changes remains to lead people to locate high quality content on the web.
