Google Rolls Out New Snippets For List Pages

Google has announced the release of new snippets for web pages that comprise lists. These snippet improvements set out to distill information from long lists and show them in bullet-points. The new snippet format alters the previously available meta descriptions.

They were first spotted sometime last week, in the UK where they were primarily seen. However, this announcement from Google confirms that these list snippets are indeed an addition to the search engine results page.

Being an inquisitive mind, I performed my own experiment and here's what my search for hotel's in London landed me with:

As the example site consists of a structured list, like a table or series of bullets, the new snippet showed me a list of three relevant rows underneath the result in a bulleted format. The snippet also revealed +20 count to reflect the total number of rows on the page.

strong>Snippet Implications:

As you are bound to get three bullet rows or items in addition to the standard first line, this new format enhances the page's expanse which could result into increase in the click-through rate as well. The snippet seems to be a great improvement for pages that have long lists as it will let users stop at the SERP in many instances.

Google has also indicated that this is not going to be the last of the snippet changes either, Well keep making more snippet improvements to better reflect the content of our search results, making it easier for you to find the most relevant results. Can't wait to see what the next improvement will be like!
