Yahoo Reclaims Number Two Spot In Online Video
By: Doug Caverly 2010-10-13 A company that's notorious for not doing well in the search race has at least scored a victory in another field. New data from comScore indicates that, in terms of online video properties' unique viewers, Yahoo has taken back second place from Facebook.
For August, comScore put Facebook ahead of Yahoo with 58.6 million visitors to its 53.9 million. Now, for September, comScore's indicated that Yahoo attracted 54.4 million visitors, while Facebook only drew in 52.2 million. That's important in a quantifiable financial sense, since video ads bring in revenue and are becoming an increasingly common way for big companies to get in touch with Internet users. It could help Yahoo gain a little traction with users in lots of other areas (like search), too, since it's less of a jump to move to Yahoo.com from Yahoo Videos than from, say, Google-owned YouTube. We just can't confirm that connection yet. Anyway, it shouldn't surprise anyone that comScore said in a statement, "Google Sites, driven primarily by video viewing at YouTube.com, ranked as the top online video content property with 144.2 million unique viewers."
