Yahoo Introduces New Set Of Search Enhancements
By: Doug Caverly 2010-10-08 Even as the Yahoo-Bing deal nears completion, Yahoo has issued a reminder that it hasn't dropped out of the search race. In fact, it's still running full speed, with the company announcing five different sorts of improvements yesterday.
"Cut to the chase" is both what we'll try to do with this article and what Yahoo's doing with its search engine. Or to be a little clearer: Yahoo's highlighting entertainment-related shortcuts that organize things like pictures, videos, tweets, and event listings (along with ways to buy tickets to events). Yahoo's also created a way for Netflix members to add movies to their queue straight from the main page of Yahoo search results, and will display relevant slideshows in addition to search results when people search for trending topics. Then, to expand on that idea, a statement issued by the company said, "An immersive new Yahoo! Image Search delivers engaging slideshows with public photos from Flickr and Yahoo!'s leading content sites, as well as the ability for people to view personally meaningful public Facebook albums from friends when they sign-in and connect their Yahoo! accounts to Facebook." And finally, according to Yahoo, "Android and iPhone users can now get faster, more sophisticated Search results, thanks to the latest HTML5 technology." These interface upgrades are almost sure to stir up some interest in Yahoo, even if Google has a dominant market share and Yahoo's search results are now powered by Bing.
