Bing Updates BlackBerry App
By: Doug Caverly 2010-09-24 It seems like most conversations about mobile phones turn to either the iPhone or the Android operating system these days, and most forecasts indicate that Android will become dominant in less than five years. Still, the BlackBerry is an important platform, and Bing's taken that into account with some upgrades to its BlackBerry app.
Andy Chu, a member of the Bing for Mobile team, wrote on the Bing Search Blog yesterday, "We have recently updated the Bing for Mobile Blackberry app. You can now access Bing Maps by pressing the Bing Maps icon from your Blackberry device." What's more, Chu continued, "We have also updated the home screen and added a launcher so you can access local, maps, directions and news faster." This is all sure to please current BlackBerry/Bing users, and it may convince more than a few other people to give the combination a try. On that note, if you're curious, the official list of supported devices is rather long, including the Curve 8500, the Curve 2 8520/8530, the Bold 9000, the Tour 9600, the Bold 9650 (Essex), the Bold 9700 (Bold2), the Pearl Flip 8200, the Storm 9530, and the Storm 9550 (Storm2). It should be interesting to see what kind of market share Bing can carve out for itself in the mobile search market.
