Google Creates Site To Showcase New Products
By: Doug Caverly 2010-09-23 At the moment, Google has a market cap of about $165 billion, and put simply, the search giant never lets anybody forget it, churning out new products and services at a rate that's hard to process. So now, supposedly for the sake of helping onlookers keep up, the company's launched a site called Google New.
If you're curious how it came into being, Ji Lee of the Google Creative Blog explained on the Official Google Blog, "A few of us had a 20 percent project idea: create a single destination called Google New where people could find the latest product and feature launches from Google." As for what to make of the site, it's possible to argue that Google New is an exercise in self-indulgence. The site doesn't amount to much more than a monument to Google's accomplishments, after all, and there are other places to find the same information. Still, for anyone who doesn't feel like monitoring an array of independent tech blogs - or keeping an eye on Google's own 100+ blogs - Google New should act as a decent source of facts. Would-be critics will also have to admit that the creation of a single site couldn't exactly have sucked up a large percentage of Google's resources. Finally, it should be interesting just to sit back and watch the site get updated, as Google really does release stuff at an amazing rate.
