Google Offers More Details On Chrome Web Store
By: Mike Sachoff 2010-08-18 Google has released more details about its upcoming Chrome Web Store that was first announced in May at Google I/O. The Chrome Web Store is set to launch in October, Google said at the Game developers Conference Europe.
The store is similar to the iTunes App Store and will use Google Checkout tomake purchasing apps easier, 1Up.com reports. Google said it will be easyfor developers to create apps for the store. Once an app is created it canbe uploaded to the store and automatically approved and published. Google said it will not have a revenue sharing system, but instead it willcharge developers a 5 percent processing fee. The Chrome Web Store at launchwill support both free and paid apps, free trials, subscriptions andthird-party in-app payment methods for microtransactions. Google also showed flash games that run in Chrome, including Plants vs.Zombies and Lego Star Wars. Google showed off the ability of video playing in HTML5 and talked about WebGL, apps that can take advantage of a computer's hardware, and C++ beingused for browser-based games.
