Google Updates YouTube Mobile Site
By: Doug Caverly 2010-07-08 Never mind all the apps that have been (and will be) made available; when it comes to watching videos on a cell phone, Google wants people to deal with it directly. And to that end, Google debuted a new and improved version of the YouTube Mobile site late yesterday.
The most important thing to note about the upgraded edition of YouTube Mobile is that it's fast. A lot of people might not tolerate a slow experience if they're just trying to waste a minute or two of time, after all. Otherwise, a post on the YouTube Blog explained, "The user interface incorporates larger, more touch-friendly elements, making it easier to access videos on the go." Also, "It incorporates the features and functionality you've come to expect from the .com site, like search query suggestions, the options to create playlists, the ability to designate 'favorite,' 'like' or 'unlike' videos directly from your device." Then the blog post stressed, "As we make improvements to Youtube.com, you'll see them quickly follow on our mobile site, unlike native apps which are not updated as frequently." This move should help Google maintain a constant presence in smartphone owners' minds. Although it arguably doesn't need a boost, since at this point, YouTube Mobile's clocking over 100 million video playbacks a day.
