Yahoo Names New CTO
By: Doug Caverly 2010-06-04 A rather important position at Yahoo is no longer empty. Yesterday, Chief Architect Raymie Stata - who's spent about six years with the company - was given the title "Chief Technology Officer and Vice President."
Stata's resume is somewhat impressive. Prior to joining Yahoo, he was the founder and CTO of Stata Labs, an email search company that was acquired by Yahoo. Then working backwards again, he was an assistant professor at UC Santa Cruz and held positions at Internet Archive, Compaq, Fundamental Capital, Deploy Solutions, AltaVista, and Digital Equipment Corporation. Moreover, Stata earned his Ph.D. in computer science from MIT. He seems like a well-qualified candidate for the job, then. And in terms of how Stata will fit into Yahoo as its CTO, a post on the Yodel Anecdotal blog explained, "Raymie reports to our Chief Products Officer, Blake Irving and will drive technology roadmaps in partnership with both Chief Scientist Prabhakar Raghavan, who oversees science and research at Yahoo!, and David Dibble, who leads Service Engineering and Operations." It should be interesting to see if any significant leaps forward occur as a result of this development. Yahoo's promised again and again that its deal with Microsoft won't cause the company to abandon its own initiatives.
