Google Assembles Supporters Of AdMob Deal
By: Doug Caverly 2010-05-05 Rumor has it that the FTC will vote today to either approve or block Google's acquisition of AdMob, and perhaps in preparation for this, Google's tried again to show that the deal's a fair one. Or, to be more accurate, Google's actually highlighted how many other people think the deal's a grand idea.
Late yesterday, Paul Feng, a group product manager, wrote a post on the Google Public Policy Blog linking to articles and editorials from the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the Motley Fool, PaidContent, Silicon Alley Insider, the Technology Policy Institute, and Wired. All of them come out in support of Google's (attempted) acquisition. A sample title from Wired, for example, reads, "FTC Blocking of Google Mobile Ad Acquisition Would be Misguided." Collecting these articles is at least a good PR move for Google. It's hard to believe that regulators at the FTC won't do their own research, after all, and it's not their job to be swayed by public opinion. Still, Google's shown that lots of smart people think there's no problem with what it's trying to do, which shouldn't in any way harm its case. It'll just be interesting to see if the FTC approves the acquisition, and if not, to what length Google goes fighting the decision.
