Google Adds Twitter Search 'Replay' Option
By: Doug Caverly 2010-04-14 People who won't watch a movie after missing the first 15 minutes - or, for a better comparison, choose to read every single feed item on Facebook rather than just the highlights - might appreciate a new feature Google's rolling out. It will allow users to view tweets from specific periods of time.
A post on the Official Google Blog explained this morning, "-Y-ou can zoom to any point in time and 'replay' what people were saying publicly about a topic on Twitter. To try it out, click 'Show options' on the search results page, then select 'Updates.'" Afterwards, assuming the rollout has reached you (it's supposed to take place over the next few days, hitting all English-language Google users), you'll see something in addition to the most recent tweets and status updates related to a given subject. The post stated, "-N-ow there's a new chart at the top. In that chart, you can select the year, month or day, or click any point to view the tweets from that specific time period." This probably isn't the sort of thing most people will use every day, or even once a week. Still, the feature could prove to be a handy research tool, and its existence shows that Google remains dedicated to mastering all aspects of search.
