$2.3 Billion Fine for Google?

...which represents the European Union, has received three antitrust complaints about it. Two of them relate to Google (allegedly) demoting other search engines in its search results.

The EC's expected to investigate these complaints, and a formal probe could result.

That's where things would start to look dangerous for Google. Rupert Neate reported this morning, "The Commission can impose a penalty of up to 10pc of Google's $23.6bn annual revenues if it finds that Google uses its 90pc share of the UK search market to suppress its rivals."

Still, we're a long ways off from that stage of the process right now, and Google's no doubt got legions of lawyers who will work to keep the company from ever facing such a fine.

Also, seeing as how Google's got a market cap of around $166.35 billion, even a $2.36 billion fine wouldn't represent any sort of deathblow.
