What Would It Take To Switch Search Engines?
By: Courtney Mills 2009-01-19 As we all know, Google is by far the most popular search engine, clearly beating its main rivals Yahoo! & MSN. But what if Yahoo! or MSN provided better search results, would you switch? This is the question that was asked by J.P. Morgan recently in a poll to determine what it would take for searchers to switch to an alternate search engine. 45% of respondents said that if an alternate...
search engine achieved better search results than their favorite search engine, then they would switch to the dark side. However, a resounding 38% said "Nothing Would Make me Change" talk about brand loyalty! ![]() Techcrunch jumped on board this idea also and asked its readers" WWhat Would Make You Want to Try a New Search Engine?" Although the Techcrunch poll got 2321 responses (so far), there was not a lot of difference in the answers from the J.P. Morgan poll- 58% of respondents said that they would switch to another search engine if "Results better match my search term". So it would seem that Google has nothing to worry about here, as I believe they have better search results than their main competitors (and I guess many millions of people would agree otherwise Google wouldn't be the number one search engine). What would make you switch to another search engine?
