Google Gearing Up For Birthday Celebration
By: Jordan McCollum 2008-09-25 Googles getting on in years. Its gotten to the point where theyre not quite sure of their own birthday. Once upon a time, it was September 7, but its since migrated to September 27. (Thats okay. It happens to the best of us.) To celebrate the big 1-0 this week, Google has launched a site...
...dedicated to its tenth birthday. The site features Google trivia and milestones, as well as an interactive timeline of Google history: Google Maps is also in a festive mood with the Street View guy: And as if those werent enough celebrating, Googles spreading the love with Project 10100. The project is designed to provide funding to ideas that help people:
Theyve pledged $10 million to helping people help others. The top 100 ideas, as chosen by a panel of Google employees, will be announced January 27, 2009. The public will then winnow the field to the best 20 ideas. From those, the Project 10100 advisory board will select the best five to receive funding. Its a noble idea, if a little vague. But I know I wasnt expecting a gift for Googles birthday.
