Google Local Visits The SERPs
By: David Utter 2006-07-17 Some California listings have been appearing atop the search results on Google as an entry from Google Local, complete with map and business details.
Threadwatch showed how the new results looked for Le Papillon San Jose. Similar results can be seen for Skybar and Spago in Los Angeles. It appears to be a limited rollout. Locations in New York and Chicago that one might expect to generate the same sort of results just return the usual Google search results instead (c'mon Googlers, A Voce doesn't rate a map?) It's another salvo fired in the local search wars. Having a map, phone number, and other details about a business show up in the SERPs for the world's dominant search engine offers a big promotional advantage for Google. Google's AdWords staffers in New York and Chicago will undoubtedly have this as a selling point when they canvass local businesses: We're already doing this for you (cue pretty PowerPoint slide of new SERP with Google Local business listing on top, plus other info), imagine what our AdWords can do for your business! we can hear them saying now. --- Tag: Google Add to Del.icio.us | Digg | Yahoo!
