Google Makes Arrangement With Sundance
By: Doug Caverly 2006-07-05 As if Google didn't already have enough going on, they've joined hands with the Sundance Film Festival.
Google Video will now offer a selection of movies and video clips from Sundance for small fees. Right now, there are 38 selections, with the majority available for purchase or rental (some of the less expensive videos can only be purchased). Current prices range from $1.99 to $9.99. A brief preview appears to be present for each of the clips, as well as a sentence-long description. You can view the listings here. Some of the titles that caught my eye are Childstar, the First Amendment Project series, Omagh, Rick, Scotland PA, Soho Square, The Tesseract, and Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself. Fair warning, though: I haven't seen, or even heard, of any of these, so watch them at your own risk. I feel obligated to mention something called Transgeneration, as well, since there are eight episodes of it offered through Google Video. It's probably good, or at least popular, because it accounts for over 20 percent of the Sundance offerings. It seems like this new program will get the word out on a lot of the kooky little films that usually fly under the radar. Hopefully this turn of events is a positive thing; I'm betting it will be.
