Beware Search Engine Ranking Scams
By: Doug Caverly 2006-06-29 Do you want your site to be among the first 20 results on a search engine? The response to that is likely yes.
Do you have a spare $15,000? Individual answers may vary. Would you trust someone who said they could achieve the former in exchange for the latter? Im expecting to hear a no this time. In the HighRankings.com Search Engine Optimization Forum, a member was confronted with this set of circumstances. He asked the forums advice in this thread. The person who made this business proposal offered mild evidence of his abilities with one example of a listing for vitamins. Nine forum members replied in the thread within ten hours of the first post. They answered with a resounding, Dont do it! Even assuming the man who offered a high search engine listing was able to confer it, the terms of the agreement were questionable. The price tag was the first thing to which most of the members objected. $15,000 is not chump change. On top of that, the man only promised high placement when the search term included a combination of city, state, and/or zip code. The terms also specified top 20 or first page on any of the top 12 search engines, the advice-seeker said. Learn from this exchange; be wary of the hands you entrust with your sites search engine rankings. Jill, a High Rankings Advisor and Adminstrator, probably said it the best (and the most succinctly): Unless they can show you results in Google, its all empty promises. Add to | DiggThis | Yahoo!
