Brin Cracks On Yahoo Censorship 
By: David Utter 2006-05-12 Google co-founder Sergey Brin let a member of Amnesty International know just where they should worry about censorship and other human rights issues.
As stockholders took the microphone to directly question Google's leadership about the company's business and future, some asked about the possibility of splitting stock, why Gmail runs at a snail's pace, and how they'll handle the competitive threat of Microsoft. Brin, co-founder Larry Page, and CEO Eric Schmidt took questions from a number of people out of the estimated 200-strong crowd during its Annual Stockholders Meeting. The Mercury News highlighted a choice bit when Anthony Cruz, a member of Amnesty International, took on Brin over China: But the protest got derailed when Brin asked the man, Anthony Cruz, what search engine he was recommending as an alternative to Google.
"I use Yahoo," Cruz responded. "You mean the one that has been censoring since the '90s and recently caused a number of journalists to go to prison?" Brin asked in amazement. Yahoo has been cited in three cases where Chinese journalists received jail time for their reporting. Each case included evidence provided by Yahoo when compelled by Chinese authorities to do so.
