Ask.com Hits The Airwaves
By: David Utter 2006-05-03 Buoyed by the growth of the Search & Media division, IAC/InterActiveCorp plans to launch a television campaign with NBC and air Ask.com advertisements during several shows.
May 3rd marks the debut of IAC's television ads for Ask.com, IAC's search engine now headed by new CEO Jim Lanzone as part of chairman Barry Diller's media empire. Commercials will air on "Today," "Will and Grace," and "Saturday Night Live," MediaPost reported. While the Ask search engine has gained some market share, rising to a 5.9 percent share, it trails the leading sites Google, Yahoo, and MSN considerably. An advertising campaign could help boost its profile among the broader audience television can provide. At this point it's easy to be cynical and claim Ask's minimal share market won't make many gains with Google's familiarity and entrenchment at the top of the search food chain, even with an ad campaign targeted toward more casual Internet users who may not be Googling all the time. Ask does make its various search tools much more present and accessible on its home page. While the competition has the same sort of offerings like image search and news, Ask has made access to those options part of their presence in a user-friendly, visual way. --- Tag: Ask.com Add to | DiggThis | Yahoo!
