Searching In Any Language
By: SearchNewz Staff 2006-05-02 Look past the "babe" in Babelplex and think Tower of Babel instead of pin-up girl. It'll save you the disappointment ...
... of blindly clicking the link only to discover it's a Google mashup that allows you to search split-screen style in a number of languages. Babelplex.com translates search queries in the language of your choosing and displays foreign language results next to English results. Someone looking to rent or buy a home on the French Riviera (dream with me here), can see results from both sides of "the Pond," as they say. It offers about 10 different languages backwards and forwards from simplified Chinese to Arabic. You don't have to be able to actually read the results yourself. As Google launches a series of award-winning language tools to compete against Yahoo!'s BabelFish, you'll be able to cut and paste text into Google Translate, a companion that could make Babelplex an especially useful tool. They've recently included Arabic, as Garett Rogers illustrates. And just in case you didn't snicker enough at Google's revelation about the popularity of searches for -420- last week, they've apparently run out of papers. Hat tip to Inside Google.
