Google Loses A Bill, Brings Back Old Favorites
By: SearchNewz Staff 2006-04-21 In the wake of an exciting week for Google (think earnings), the company also made some quiet announcements.
Two of them are reintroductions of old favorites. The other is that Google may or may not have misplaced $1 billion in advertising money. Thats not to say the moneys lost quot; just that its hanging out in a nether region waiting to be spent. Over at BuyGoogle, it seems that an analyst revealed in a conference call that advertisers are having trouble spending all their ad budgets on Google. Its nothing to freak out about. Its only $1 BILLION of inventory just hanging out there somewhere in cyberspace. Maybe that money is on vacation in the same outer limits from which Google Maps and Google Page Creator just returned. Last October, Google changed the name of its Google Maps site to Google Local. And, according to product manager Thai Tran, the name change chapped a lot of craw. We underestimated how much people loved Google Maps, said Tran. Many have continued to refer to the site by the previous name, and many have explicitly asked us to "bring back Google Maps." Since it's most important to us to give our users what they want, we've decided to change the name officially to Google Maps. Google Page Creator made a stealthy return as well. Part of the Google Labs family, Page Creator was launched in February and quickly taken offline (supposedly due to huge demand). Yesterday, Justin Rosenstein bragged about his project on the Google Blog: After many months of focusing on designing a product that our friends and families would enjoy, and politely coaxing web browsers into doing things they were never meant to do, we're happy that "Google Page Creator" is now part of the Google Labs family. Neither Rosenstein nor Tran mentioned if theyd seen that billion dollars in ad money lying around. Tag: Google | Drag this to your Bookmarks.
