Paid listings that appear in certain Yahoo Directory categories get highlighted as sponsored links, related to the specific category details as they do in search results.
The short and sweet version of Yahoo sponsored links, as picked out by SEW's Gary Price, is how they link to advertising categories instead of particular websites.
At the bottom of a movie listing page, a plain blue and white box titled Sponsored Links appears. Price selected the George Clooney vehicle "Good Night, And Good Luck" for his example; I've picked "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" in keeping with the theme of highly fictitious big-screen entertainment.
Yahoo utilizes Ajax programming and loads the ads below the sponsored link categories when a category is clicked. Click another category and the ads change, without leaving the page.
In a help file, Yahoo defines these sponsored links:
This program uses a performance-based model in which businesses bid for enhanced placement in search results on terms that are relevant to their business, and pay on a per-click basis.
