Financial Times men of the year, Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, will be billed as executive producers of an indie film by an old college friend.
Sorry, folks, this isn't Page and Brin appearing in "Brokeback Mountain View." Instead, the low-budget project "Broken Arrows" by DreamWorks Animation CGI staffer Reid Gershbein picked up a little Google cash to fund its production.
The San Francisco Chronicle said Gershbein and the top Googlers have been friends since their days at Stanford, as doctoral students in computer science. Now multi-billionaires, Brin and Page provided a sum believed to be just under a million dollars to produce their old friend's film.
Gershbein touched base with Brin about a year ago to see who he might know who would be interested in backing Gershbein's live action feature. Brin instead offered to do so, and Page followed suit at a later fundraiser.
More about the film can be found at its website. Perhaps this work will be the one that opens the rental or download options on Google Video to Internet users after the film's debut in 2006.
