Podcast Audio Search Has Arrived

I just got an email from Neville letting me know he had submitted our podcast, For Immediate Release, to Podzinger.

Neville offered a link to a Blogspotting post by Stephen Baker on the service. According to Baker, Podzinger actually searches the voice file, translates it to text (presumably using some kind of voice-to-text application), then indexes the results. I decided to cruise on over and see if FIR was available yet.

I checked the show notes for Monday's show and found a phrase to enter in the Podzinger search engine: "open source marketing." I entered the phrase and Monday's show immediately appeared as the only search result. Here's what the result included:

Clicking the highlighted word in the search results begins playing the podcast from that point; just clicking the "play" button starts the show at the beginning. The audio playback only works in Microsoft Internet Explorer; Podzinger will need to make it work in Firefox, too, but for a new offering in beta, it's pretty slick. Podzinger's a product of BBN, the company that is most responsible for development of the Internet.
