Interviews are taking place at Google's headquarters in Mountain View to fill several roles in Seoul, including product managers, marketing managers and finance managers, and a CEO.

Google Searching For Korean Opportunity
Google Eyes Korean Expansion

The search engine company has operated an office in Seoul with a handful of sales representatives, but those staffers could gain some co-workers soon. A report on europa.korea said Google should open the expanded operation in a few months.

Last week, Google invited 40 Google users in Korea to a two-day forum in Seoul to discuss typical focus group topics about the search engine. In previous months, Google has advertised itself heavily at Korean universities, and even brought some users from Korea to visit the Googleplex in August.

The article noted that Google created a Korean-language version of Blogger, and has made a number of its applications available for Korean users. Among Google's blogs that it operates to communicate with users, a Korean version of the official Google blog has been present in that list for a while, and is the only foreign language site listed with its corporate blogs.

Google has to overcome a lot of competition in the Korean market. Its efforts to date haven't been able to move it alongside native search and portal sites like Daum and Naver. Worse, Yahoo Korea ranks as a top five destination for Korean users.
