BoardTracker Does Forum Searching

The site, run by Pidgin Technologies, focuses only on message boards and forums and can do message tracking and send instant alerts based on user criteria.

With all the attention paid to bloggers, blog comments, and blog search, the concept of the message forum gets little notice in the press. But thousands of forums exist on a breadth of topics. BoardTracker, currently in beta, bills itself as a forum-focused search engine.

"Boardtracker brings the most targeted audience closer to the boards, by being a search engine only for boards and by supplying a categorized and highly effective searching and browsing experience to users," the site said.

The engine's spider does obey robots.txt files, for boards that may not wish to be indexed. Its alerts can be sent via email, Jabber, or ICQ, when BoardTracker finds a match for search terms.

BoardTracker is accepting forum submissions in two formats, free and an expedited process for which it charges $499 via PayPal. They list an index of 15,563 forums tracked at press time, some well-known (Search Engine Watch) and others very niche-oriented (Wizards.com, the home of Dungeons and Dragons).
