The search advertising company should soon have more office space in Kirkland, WA, home to the University of Washington and not real far from Redmond, either.
Google has had offices in Kirkland for about a year, and should soon have about 15,000 square feet of new surroundings, the Seattle Times reported.
The company did not comment on the expansion plans, however a real estate agent in Seattle confirmed Google would be expanding in Kirkland. Broker Dan Foster told the Times "they like to be educated about the market" in referring to rumors about Google looking for space in Bellevue.
Google's existing R&D offices employ between 150 and 200 people in Kirkland, and it could be that the company wants to bring not just new employees on board, but pull them away from Microsoft.
The ongoing court saga between the two tech companies over Kai-Fu Lee has been well documented. In the hearings that have taken place, pieces of internal Microsoft emails emerged, citing the threat of employees jumping ship to take positions at Google.
If more Microsoft people switch to Google, it looks like it could be said that part of Google's secondary stock proceeds have funded an investment in Microsoft expertise.
