The search engine company's information utility has become an official Google product, and goes out the door with a few enhancements to celebrate its post-beta status.

Google recently noted how its useful Desktop 2 product is no longer in beta testing. It emerges with some extras in place.
One update to Desktop 2 adds a Personalized Maps panel to the Sidebar. That makes the functionality of Google Local available along with the other services in Desktop 2. As one browses the web, the Maps panel will display map information related to what site a user is visiting.
Third-party developers get support for script plug-ins. Google now provides an automatic plug-in installer too. Developers can find out more online.
Google also said in its post they have been testing the Enterprise version of Desktop 2 in various medium and large businesses. That testing has let them "verify the administration, integration and security features that are important within business environments."
