Letting eBay scoop up Skype was a mistake, one that Google shouldn't make again; the Motley Fool suggests a few purchase options it could make instead.
TiVo makes the top of the Fool's list, but thinks it would be a surprising choice. (Not really, as readers saw here on Halloween, and on CNet in April.)
Speaking of CNet, the Fool.com list has them right behind TiVo as a possible takeover target. CNet reportedly began positioning itself for a sale throughout the summer, but the potential $2+ billion price tag might be a bit high.
Still, eBay might end up putting down $4.1 billion altogether for Skype, so who knows how much is too much now?
Google has been in the mix for AOL, competing with Microsoft and possibly Yahoo. That deal has been the one Google watchers want to see the search engine win.
The potential of losing 12 percent of their ad revenue to Microsoft, seen as the front-runner for a stake in AOL, could be the deal that impacts Google's stock price the most.
