The metasearch engine company is continuing to work through the acquisition of desktop tool provider Copernic.
Mamma.com disclosed its satisfaction with the ongoing due diligence paperwork behind their proposed purchase of Copernic in a statement. Mamma had previously announced an expectation to close the deal by the end of November this year.
Their statement demonstrates how the company hopes to compete with existing powers Google and Yahoo, and the developing networks at MSN and Ask (emphasis added):
"Our discussions with Copernic continue to move forward and we are satisfied with the intensity of the exchanges. We are focused on working with Copernic towards the completion of this deal," said Guy Faure, President and CEO of Mamma.com Inc. "We strongly believe that the synergies created with Copernic in the search space combined with Mamma's Ad Network business will make us a stronger contender in the on-line advertising industry."
Copernic makes a variety of search products. Its Desktop Search gained notice when PC World named it a World Class product for 2005. In August, we theorized Mamma may try to use Copernic to position itself toward gaining ground in European markets.
Mamma could try to emphasize its status as a non-American-centric alternative to Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft in the search advertising market.
