Blog Search Pending From Yahoo

Another competitor to Google and others in the blog search area could be arriving from Yahoo this week.

BusinessWeek has noted online that Yahoo's blog search product may be ready to launch. Stephen Baker cites Yahoo search group's director of tech development in noting an announcement will come this week:

He wouldn't provide details in advance. And it could be that Yahoo's announcement will cover only one aspect of blog or RSS search, and not the comprehensive release the search industry's waiting for.

Google's recent debut of blog search has been functional but limited in its current scope. The Google product is only going as far back as June, though the company plans to index more content over time.

Yahoo can gain on Google and other blog search engines like Technorati and IceRocket if it can find a way to minimize the presence of spam blogs, also called splogs. Spam blogs consist of blogs filled with no real content beyond advertisements for a product or service. Their presence has become a big hurdle to effective blog search today.
