Yahoo's Video Search Awards contest has ended, with a California videomaker taking the top prize.
Marty Putz becomes the first Yammy award winner, as Yahoo announced in a statement how his "Twinkle Toes" video short captured the majority of votes in its online voting as well as those of its celebrity judges.
Mr. Putz, appropriately from Studio City, CA, created the video featuring himself in a music store, wearing headphones and dancing wildly . His winning entry gets him a full movie theater premiere and party for him and his friends. Yahoo also awarded a Dell UltraSharp LCD monitor and a portable Panasonic DVD player.
Casio sponsored the event, and its Exilim S500 camera was among the prizes awarded. Yahoo developed the contest to build interest in its Video Search feature, as well as to generate recognition of independent video makers.
"We created the Yammys to inspire and yet recognize this growing group of creative content developers who are using today's technology to create works that millions can instantly enjoy," said Lorna Borenstein, vice president of marketing, Yahoo! Search and Marketplace.
