The MSN Search service now has options that make it easier to find published RSS feeds from web sites.
With two new operators, MSN Search now allows searching within RSS and Atom feeds, according to Robin Good. The "feed" and "hasfeed" operators can be used with search terms on MSN Search.
The "feed:" operator looks inside RSS or Atom feeds for the query terms and returns any results containing them. To find a site that links to a feed and has results for the query term, use "hasfeed: ."
Google and Yahoo don't support these operators yet. Testing them out with the query feed:hurricane returns web results for both, but nothing within feeds.
RSS feeds have sprung up on hundreds of web sites. The technology to create a feed makes it relatively easy for a site to offer one. Microsoft plans to integrate RSS technology within the Vista operating system and IE7. That could drive RSS to greater usage by end users, given the omnipresence of Windows on PCs worldwide.
