Yahoo Draws Up Free Sitemaps

When Google debuted its Sitemaps to allow for faster spidering, many wondered when Yahoo would do the same.

SEO Scoop brought up a tasty little Yahoo treat today. It's a request form to get one's site crawled and indexed quicker, for free.

Yahoo provides a way to get a whole bunch of URLs indexed in one shot:
You can also provide the location of a text file containing a list of URLs, one URL per line, say urllist.txt. We also recognize compressed versions of the file, say urllist.gz.

And Search Engine Roundtable has been hammering away at Yahoo's Site Explorer link. Don't get too excited, as it isn't live just yet. Perhaps the nice people at Yahoo should have provided a timetable; they didn't realize just how excited the SEO world would be about this.

Yahoo advertisers should be thrilled with recent big wins for the Context Match and Sponsored Search programs. With iVillage and Viacom going with Yahoo, markets focused on customers of those presences should see some serious traffic come their way just in time for the holidays.
