Smart Answers from Ask Jeeves offers quick facts on countries, planets, and most importantly, NASCAR drivers.
There's a bunch of new Smart Answers from the butler now, according to Search Engine Watch. Ask Jeeves now provides more specific answers to direct questions.
That always seemed to be the whole intended point of the Ask Jeeves search engine, but was frequently more the principle rather than the practice. Now, with better work taking place to refine the Ask answers, users will see some expanded information at the top of the search results page.
Sponsored links appear under the expanded information, and web results under those. Smart Answers come in several categories, like state and country data, popular TV show information, and the latest on NASCAR racers. A search for Tony Stewart also brings up the latest news headlines about him, plus additional links.
The SEW story recommend Ask target the Smart Answers technology toward potential sponsors in vertical categories, and maybe even tailor those sales to regional or local advertisers. That sounds, well, like a smart idea.
