AOL Debuts A Trio Of Mobile Searches

Results of searches performed from cellphones will be optimized for the small screen, thanks to a new technology partnership.

A partnership with Israeli firm InfoGin Ltd means AOL searches from a mobile phone will appear in a form more compatible with those smaller displays.

According to a press release, Mobile AOL Search can be used to access any type of web content, not just those pages that have already been created to conform to the WAP 2.0 standard.

Pinpoint Shopping, a comparison-shopping service, can be accessed on the fly. That makes it useful for in-store shoppers who may be able to find a better deal for a product online, or just find out more information about a product than a store clerk can provide.

Mobile AOL Yellow Pages brings the content of a hefty business directory along without the weight. This service provides local search results, and can also retrieve directions from MapQuest via the handset.

Users can tryout these services from a mobile phone Web browser by visiting http://mobile.aolsearch.com; users should verify that their mobile plans include Internet access and be aware of any potential additional fees associated with the service.
