Lesser Known Search Engines Make News, Too

While the majority of the search engine news seems to focus on the big players, the smaller search engines are still out there, plugging away at making themselves viable, or in some cases, not viable at all.
Vertical shopping search engine, Become.com, has raised over $7 million in the second round of their investment funding efforts. With Become concentrating solely on shopping-related web sites, the efforts of the search engine have obviously been recognized.
According to SearchEngineWatch, the lead investor for Become.com was the Transcosmos corporate venture capital group. Become developers indicate the newly invested revenue will be used on a comparative shopping service.
In other news, also provided by SEW, Jux2, the winner Search Engine Watch's 2004 best meta search engine award has gone under. According to Jux2 developers, the meta engine did not have enough time, revenue, and resources to remain active.
As one search engine continues to climb their way up the proverbial ladder, another promising tool is taken to the search engine graveyard. Ahh, the cyclical life of technology.
