Ask Jeeves Buys Excite Europe

The little search engine that could has kept right on doing things that contributed in their longevity to begin with.
Ask.com, or the search engine that refuses to yield, has announced their intentions to purchase Excite Italia B.V., the operator of Excite Europe. This acquisition finalizes the Excite purchase that began in 2004.
According to Steve Berkowitz, CEO of Ask Jeeves, Inc., the Excite Italia purchase will allow Ask.com to continue their European expansion: "Access to Excite's pan-European operational infrastructure and market knowledge will accelerate our European growth initiative and provide an instant revenue stream from additional users and advertisers."
As indicated, the purchase gives Ask control of the Excite properties extending outside of the North American region. Excite will continue their web portal businesses, which will be conducted out of Excite Europe's headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Financial details of the acquisition were not revealed.
