Google's Chinese Cenorship Considered A Success

By Chris Richardson

Because of China's strict information control and the compliance they demand from foreign businesses, Google was forced to allow Google News to be censored by the Chinese government. In order to release their search engine to the Chinese population, Google had to abide these methods.

And because Google did so with flying colors, the Chinese government is allowing the search engine to open an office in the Chinese mainland. Could this be a case of quid pro quo? Google's plan for their Chinese office is to introduce a sales team who will introduce the concept of search engine marketing and PPC advertising to China's business sector.

However, a number of publications like MarketingVOX disagree with Google's method of placating the Chinese government in order to maintain their search presence. With moves like these, could Google be jettisoning their "Do No Evil" motto in favor of one that says "Make Large Profits"? Hopefully not.
