Will Rule-Based Search Patent Kill Google?

In an exciting Development the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia is on the verge of receiving patents on a search technology that uses pull-down menu's to narrow searches.

In a report published in Australian IT, Professor Enrico Coiera, of the Centre for Health Informatics, says, "the main limitation of search engines such as Google is that they do not know who is asking the question or why it is being asked". He makes the point that for professionals this is not very accurate.

Professor Coiera is the Foundation Chair in Medical Informatics within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of NSW. He is also Co-director of the Centre for Health Informatics
