"Analytics" Data Use In Google Algorithm
By: Jaan Kanellis 2010-02-04 Spotted this interesting Google Web master Tools video today Is Google Analytics data a factor in a pages ranking? HUH?????? WHAT????? Did I just hear that right Matt? Google algorithms dont consider GA data when shaking things out? LOL, well sure maybe not the the data itself, directly from GA. You just confirmed that with us, but some how Google engineers are counting those clicks from desktops because that is essentially how your search personalization works. Right? If one desktop is getting a ton of clicks to one website, that website will more than likely show up more often (higher) in the SERPs. And this is just talking visitors, who knows what other analytics (time on site, bounce rate) could be tracked to enforce better results for searchers. I think some true transparency needs to come soon on how much analytics data (doesnt matter if it is not coming from GA, its still analytics data) is used to help decide what sites rank above others. Especially from a personalization stand point. Thoughts?
