Microsoft ~ No Plans To Raise Yahoo Bid

By: Andy Beal
2008-04-01

Despite what foolery you may read today, Microsoft has no plans to raise its $44.6 billion bid for Yahoo.

According to the WSJ

Such pronouncements are standard in deal negotiations but people close to Microsoft insist the stance isnt posturing. While speculation has swirled that Microsoft was poised to raise its bid, Microsoft is instead biding its time. The software giant likely hopes to use the potential of a sweetened offer to lure Yahoo into serious discussions. So far the two sides have only had one meeting.

"Theres no reason to bid against ourselves," one of these people said.

Why would it? Since its original bid, Yahoos not found anyone to counter-offer and hasnt shown any signs that its on the verge of a turnaround in fortunes. Microsofts like a deadly spider thats caught an insect in its web. No need to be hasty, just let the insect tire itself out, then move in for the kill.
