Latest Product Improvements From Google
By: Jordan McCollum 2007-05-18 Google has improved two of their products recently: Google Book Search and Google Analytics. We first told you about the new interface for Google Analytics last week. Today the Official Google Analytics Blog announces that the new interface is now available to all. I've had a chance to play with the new interface, and while it does take a little while to get used to the new data layout, most of the information is better displayed, more accessible and easier to understand. The old interface will be available until July 18. (Of course, as Search Engine Journal pointed out today, CMS Watch says even the new Google Analytics isn't enterprise ready.) Also today, Google Book Search expands, according to Search Engine Land's Phil Bradley. No, they still haven't digitized all the text ever printed, but they have indexed far more than they've digitized. Google made the official announcement yesterday on their Librarian Central blog. I tried it with a paraphrase from the last paragraph of The Great Gatsby, as well as lines from Democracy in America and Robert Burns's poetry. The results were pretty good: every single result in the top ten contained the phrase from the book. Many of the results were anthologies or critical responses, others the complete works, and some were unrelated works quoting that passage. However, a phrase at random from a more recent book didn't turn up any results. Could be the whole public domain thing.
