Ask Runs Curious Guerilla Marketing Campaign
By: Nathan Weinberg 2007-03-19 Ask.com is running a guerilla marketing campaign, inviting people to visit their "Information Revolution" website via subway ads, posters, stickers, even search results, all in the name of broadening their search horizons. The campaign says that far too many people use a single search engine (wanna guess which one) and are "search sleeping their way through life, as that search enGine controls their minds and their information. Its a bit of a silly idea, but marketing campaigns are judged by success, not brains, and this has the markings of something that, while it isn't going to start a revolution, could possibly remind people that other search engines do exist. No one is going to deny that Ask has released some cool features lately, and that their search engine is far better than it was a few years ago, so getting the word out has to be important for them. There are some pretty good non-Google search engines; no one ever considers them.
