Searchfeed, Others Intend To Find Lost Children

Searchfeed.com has teamed up with UnitingTheWeb, Inc. and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). The product of this joint venture is rather interesting - "a toolbar that leverages the power of Internet search to help locate missing children."

Matt Rossi, the founder of UnitingTheWeb, was quoted in a press release. "Search is one of the most popular activities on the web and giving people a way to access search from their desktop is becoming increasingly popular," he said. "We wanted to develop a desktop toolbar application that marries the everyday needs of real people with an opportunity to have a real-life impact."

"We estimate that users will perform on average six searches per day," Rossi continued. "Considering that one in six children pictured in NCMEC's photo distribution program is recovered as a direct result of someone recognizing them from their photograph; we're hoping to make an important difference."

The Searchfeed toolbar works by rotating "pictures of missing children derived from NCMEC's national database . . . above the search results." It may also help provide UnitingTheWeb with revenue.

"To support their application and their cause," the press release stated, "UnitingTheWeb, Inc. earns revenue each time a user clicks on Searchfeed.com's Pay Per Click results that are also displayed on the toolbar." And, according to Rossi, "We are dedicated to donating 10% of all gross revenue to the NCMEC."

A quote from Christopher Cyriax, Searchfeed.com's Business Development Manager, concluded the release. "Searchfeed.com's ability to monetize Internet traffic, while maintaining an organization's branding, further aids UnitingTheWeb.com in its efforts to help locate missing children by leveraging the power of Internet search."
