Google To Introduce Oregon Datacenter
By: Chris Richardson 2006-07-25 Google is preparing to introduce a new datacenter located in Dalles, Oregon in order to improve their efficiency in handling the sheer volume of search requests received on a daily basis. The soon-to-be-open datacenter will join the existing Google Datacenter network via Googles recently purchased fiber optic payload. According to Web Host Industry Review, the center is expected to handle billons of search queries a day, while also providing some economic stability to the The Dalles area: The center in The Dalles will open in stages throughout the next year. The project has already had a major local impact, helping to create hundreds of construction jobs and boost local real estate prices by 40 percent. The facility is expected to create 60 to 200 permanent jobs in a town of 12,000 residents.
