Yahoo Stores Get Google Sitemaps
By: David Utter 2006-06-29 Merchants using Yahoo Stores can increase the effectiveness of their site's indexing by creating a sitemap for it. Google and Yahoo both announced the new feature for Yahoo Store proprietors. Using the new feature requires opting in to do so. The "Search Engines" link in the Yahoo Store Manager goes to a pair of options the store owner can select. One creates the Sitemaps file at the root of the store's directory, and Google and other engines can crawl the site and find the sitemap. The other option allows the merchant to verify store ownership with Google, Yahoo's blog entry said. Once verified, the store owner can view other tools in Google Sitemaps, which we detailed in an April report on the service. Through the service, store owners can submit their sitemaps to Google. The process can help searchers find relevant pages from the store quickly with their queries. Then the store benefits from the extra traffic and opportunities to convert visitors into buyers. --- Tags: Yahoo, Google, Sitemaps Add to Del.icio.us | Digg | Yahoo! My Web | Furl
