Google Reveals Guys Like Sports And Girls
By: SearchNewz Staff 2006-06-23 Is it sexist to think an interest in soccer, golf, naked teachers, racing, wrestling, porn, poker, and basketball indicates a decidedly male slant? Nah, if I said lipstick, brassieres, the volleyball scene from Top Gun, Dirty Dancing, pumps, and Precious Moments figurines, you'd assume feminine, right? Google's weekly Zeitgeist report makes me think the boys were out in force. Before you call me sexist let me cite some research: Pew//Internet -- Men are more likely to use the Internet to check the weather, get news, find do-it-yourself information, acquire sports scores and information, look for political information, do job-related research, download software, listen to music, rate a product/person/service through an online reputation system, download music, use a webcam, and take a class.
comScore - men were most likely to use Google as their point of entry for search queries. Google's June audience was 51.5% male, the only search engine with a majority of its users being male. The rest skewed female.
There, that's settled. Guys like Google, sports, and girls (not necessarily in that order). And yes, there are women that like basketball and World Cup, but I bet it was men that collected these World Cup fan photos. World Cup led the top gainers for Google's weekly roundup of popular search queries. World Cup soccer matches have dominated traffic all over the web as countries go head to head (go, Italy!). Who's the top World Cup player right now? Brazilian superstar Kaka came in eighth on the list of gainers was Real Madrid tries to recruit him away from Milan (sorry, Mr. Beckham). The US Open golf tournament attracted the third-most attention, just after Father's Day queries. What comes after soccer, Dad, and golf? Naked teachers of course. Number 4 on the list is Tamara Hoover, who was recently suspended from teaching her high school art class for posting nude "artsy" photos of herself on MySpace.com. Inhale too many paint fumes, you think? The latest version of "The Fast and the Furious," brought in number 5 as -Tokyo Drift- lit up Google's servers and the big screen. Nacho Libre, which followed in 6th, didn't light up the critics last weekend, however. Here's the rest of your Google Zeitgeist: 7. Bonnaroo (concert) 9. Brenda Song (actress) 10. H5N1 (bird flu) 11. Heather Mills McCartney (Paul's ex, of whom they found semi-porn pics) 12. Jennifer Tilly (actress and celebrity poker phenom) 13. Dwayne Wade (Miami Heat's free throw record breaker) 14. Warped Tour (punk concert) 15. Flag Day (celebration of the newly created US government's approval of the stars and stripes) Google Zeitgeist | Drag this to your Bookmarks.
