Ask.com Data Miner Jams On
By: David Utter 2006-05-22 IAC Search and Media's Ask.com search engine has a famous co-author on data mining in their employ, just like Microsoft. We noted Microsoft's hiring of Rakesh Agrawal in a recent story. He is a notable in the search world due to his research and co-authoring of a 1993 white paper on data mining. Ask.com senior product manager (and Rickenbacher bass player) James Jeude posted an entry to the Ask.com blog and noted that one of Agrawal's co-authors on the data mining topic works for Ask in New Jersey. Dr. Tomasz Imielinski has received multiple international awards regarding that paper and the work he has accomplished with data mining. Jeude also noted that Inielinski plays "one heck of a mean guitar, in blues and heavy metal," in their band System Crash. MP3s on their site reveal a sound that The Doors might have made if Jim Morrison came from Minsk instead of Melbourne, Florida. We at SearchNewz certainly hope Dr. Imielinski doesn't emulate some of the Lizard King's more notorious show-closing, go-straight-to-jail stunts. (Pick up "No One Here Gets Out Alive" at your library to learn more, because this is a family publication.) --- Tag: Ask.com Add to Del.icio.us | DiggThis | Yahoo! My Web | Furl Have a bookmark! -
