Yahoo! Local has added a useful new feature for the mom and pop shops designed to increase foot traffic and generate phone calls. Yahoo! Local Featured Listings most notable addition is the local phone number below the search result for instant gratification.

This new feature seems small business and consumer-centric, as it focuses on an easier way to post local ads, consolidates the search experience for users by making phone numbers, web addresses, maps, directions, and even alternatives with the initial featured result. Clicking on a listing takes the searcher to a page that offers consumer reviews as well.

From the Yahoo! Search Blog:

A Featured Listing is a top-of-page listing that is available at a flat, monthly rate starting at $29.95/month, depending on the business category and location. (A bottom-of-page listing is also available at a discount.) These limited advertising slots are available on a first come, first serve basis.

This is a really good feature if you're looking for a quick guide to ice cream joints near campus, or even a nearby oracle to remind you what you were searching for in the first place.
